The legal landscape surrounding entertainer Betrand Peto, widely known as Onyo, has become increasingly complex following his appearance at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) headquarters on Monday, September 21, 2026. The young artist, who is the adopted son of prominent Indonesian television host Ruben Onsu, was summoned by investigators to provide testimony as a witness in an ongoing criminal investigation concerning an alleged assault case. This development marks a significant turn in a series of legal challenges currently involving the singer, placing him at the center of public and media attention.
The Dynamics of the September 21 Summons
The primary reason for Betrand Peto’s presence at the Polda Metro Jaya was to assist law enforcement in clarifying an incident reported by an individual identified as Winda Hatami Aghdan. According to official police records, Winda filed a formal complaint in mid-September 2026, alleging that she was the victim of physical assault. The accused party in this specific case is an individual identified by the initials DYP.
It is imperative to note, as underscored by legal representatives and police spokespeople, that Betrand Peto is not a suspect in this particular matter. His involvement is strictly limited to his capacity as a witness who possesses information relevant to the incident. Speaking on behalf of the authorities, Kasubbid Penmas of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Onkoseno, confirmed that the questioning took place as part of the standard investigative procedure to build a comprehensive case file against the accused, DYP. "The complainant, Winda, has filed a report regarding alleged physical assault against an individual with the initials DYP. Regarding brother BP (Betrand Peto), he attended the examination process solely to provide testimony as a witness," Onkoseno stated during a press briefing.
The questioning session, which lasted approximately four and a half hours, saw investigators probe into the events surrounding the alleged altercation. The police are currently working to reconcile the accounts provided by witnesses to determine the culpability of the suspect, DYP.
A Confluence of Legal Challenges
The recent appearance of Betrand Peto at the police station has naturally drawn significant media scrutiny, primarily because it occurs against a backdrop of another ongoing investigation that has cast a shadow over his public image. Just over a week prior to this event, on September 12, 2026, a separate legal complaint was lodged against the singer by an individual identified as ANW.
This separate matter involves allegations of "unpleasant conduct" (perbuatan tak menyenangkan), which allegedly took place at an upscale nightclub located in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) in South Jakarta. This case is qualitatively different from the assault investigation involving Winda Hatami Aghdan, as it touches upon sensitive issues involving potential violations of the Law on Sexual Violence (TPKS) or related statutes.
The legal representative for the complainant ANW, identified as Thulus, has been vocal about the progress of the investigation. According to Thulus, the investigative team has already taken statements from at least four witnesses, suggesting that the police are treating the allegations with a high degree of seriousness. Furthermore, the legal team for the complainant is currently awaiting the results of an official forensic examination (visum), which is considered a critical piece of evidence in determining the veracity of the claims. "We truly appreciate the proactive stance taken by the investigators. The results of the forensic examination, alongside the crime scene reconstruction, are essential for constructing a clear and transparent narrative of the incident," Thulus remarked in a recent interview.
The Broader Implications for Betrand Peto’s Career
The intersection of these two distinct legal matters—the witness summons in an assault case and the active investigation into allegations of sexual violence—presents a difficult situation for the artist and his management team. In the entertainment industry, where reputation is a primary asset, such legal entanglements often result in significant public discourse and, in some cases, professional repercussions.
The defense representing Betrand Peto has consistently maintained his innocence regarding the allegations of sexual violence. They have characterized the accusations as baseless and have expressed confidence that the judicial process will ultimately clear his name. However, the presence of these two concurrent legal issues has created a persistent narrative in the media that threatens to overshadow his artistic contributions.
From an analytical standpoint, the current situation highlights the challenges faced by young public figures when navigating the complexities of the Indonesian criminal justice system. The "court of public opinion" often operates at a much faster pace than the formal investigation, leading to a situation where the distinction between a "witness" and a "suspect" is often blurred in the minds of the general public.
Investigative Timelines and Procedural Facts
The chronology of events as of September 22, 2026, is as follows:
- September 12, 2026: An individual identified as ANW files a report at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police against Betrand Peto, alleging improper conduct at an SCBD nightclub.
- Mid-September 2026: Winda Hatami Aghdan files a report regarding an alleged physical assault involving an individual with the initials DYP.
- September 21, 2026: Betrand Peto arrives at the Polda Metro Jaya to fulfill a summons as a witness in the case filed by Winda Hatami Aghdan.
- September 22, 2026: Official reports emerge detailing the four-and-a-half-hour questioning session of the artist.
The fact that the police are actively pursuing these cases demonstrates a commitment to due process. The gathering of forensic evidence in the ANW case indicates that the investigation is in its middle stages, where the collection of physical proof becomes paramount. Conversely, the swift questioning of Betrand in the DYP assault case suggests that the authorities are moving to finalize witness accounts before moving toward a potential trial phase for the suspect.
Public and Media Response
The visibility of these events has sparked extensive debate on social media platforms and news outlets. Supporters of Betrand Peto have rallied behind the hashtags associated with his name, urging the public to wait for the final outcome of the investigations before drawing conclusions. On the other hand, critics have pointed to the frequency of his appearances at police stations as a matter of concern.
In the context of Indonesian law, being a witness is a legal obligation when summoned. Failure to comply can result in compulsory attendance or other legal sanctions. Therefore, Betrand Peto’s cooperation with the police is not necessarily an indication of wrongdoing but rather a compliance with the judicial process. The objective reality remains that as of September 22, 2026, there have been no formal charges of a criminal nature brought against Betrand Peto in the assault case.
Future Outlook and Legal Strategy
As the legal proceedings continue, the primary focus for all parties involved will remain on the evidentiary findings. For the case involving ANW, the forensic results will serve as the "litmus test" for the validity of the allegations. If the findings do not support the claims, the investigation may be terminated. If the findings are deemed sufficient, the police will likely elevate the status of the investigation to a formal prosecution phase.
Regarding the assault case involving DYP, the testimonies provided by witnesses—including Betrand Peto—will be synthesized by investigators to determine if there is enough evidence to move the case to the public prosecutor’s office.
For the public, these developments serve as a reminder of the importance of the presumption of innocence. While the headline-grabbing nature of celebrity legal issues is understandable, the procedural integrity of the investigation must remain the priority. The coming weeks will likely see further updates as the Jakarta Metropolitan Police provide more clarity on the forensic findings and the overall direction of these two distinct, yet impactful, legal matters.
In conclusion, while Betrand Peto finds himself currently enmeshed in the legal apparatus of the state, it is essential to distinguish between his role as a witness in one case and the allegations directed toward him in another. The legal system in Indonesia is designed to parse these differences, and it is through the formal processes of evidence gathering, witness examination, and forensic analysis that the truth will ultimately be revealed. For now, the artist remains under the scrutiny of both the law and the public, awaiting the final determinations that will shape his future path.
