Persija Jakarta’s new signing, Stjepan Loncar, has officially claimed the title of the most valuable player in the Super League 2026/2027 season, dethroning Persib Bandung’s Thom Haye. The Bosnian midfielder was formally introduced by the "Macan Kemayoran" (The Tigers) on Monday, July 20, 2026, a move that has significantly reshaped the valuation landscape of Indonesian football’s top tier.

Loncar’s arrival at Persija Jakarta marks a significant coup for the club. He joins from Croatian top-flight side NK Istra 1961, penning a two-year contract. His acquisition is not merely a tactical reinforcement for Persija’s midfield; it has directly impacted the financial metrics of the league, with his market value now standing as the highest in the competition.

Loncar’s Market Value Soars to New Heights

According to the latest data compiled by Transfermarkt, Stjepan Loncar’s market value has been assessed at an impressive Rp20.86 billion. This valuation positions him as the most sought-after player in the Super League for the upcoming 2026/2027 campaign, a testament to his perceived quality and potential.

This impressive figure sees Loncar unseat Thom Haye, the naturalized Indonesian national team midfielder who previously held the top spot. Haye, a key player for Persib Bandung, currently has a market value of Rp15.64 billion. While still substantial, this valuation now places him in the second position, highlighting the immediate impact of Loncar’s transfer.

It is important to note, however, that Loncar’s current market value, while leading the Super League, is not the peak of his career valuation. During his tenure with HNK Rijeka in the 2020/2021 season, the 29-year-old midfielder’s market value had previously reached a remarkable Rp43.45 billion, indicating a significant career trajectory and his established reputation in European football. This historical context adds another layer to his arrival in Indonesia, suggesting that Persija has acquired a player with proven pedigree at a potentially attractive valuation compared to his past peak.

A Shifting Landscape of Top Valued Players

The influx of new talent and the dynamic nature of player transfers have led to a significant reshuffling of the league’s most valuable assets. Beyond Loncar and Haye, other notable acquisitions are also making their mark on the valuation charts.

Securing the third position is another prominent new arrival, Mariano Peralta, who joins Persib Bandung. Having previously featured for Borneo FC, Peralta’s market value is pegged at Rp13.04 billion, further solidifying Persib’s ambitious recruitment strategy for the new season.

Following closely in fourth place is Miguel Pereira, the midfielder for Persebaya Surabaya, with a market value of Rp12.17 billion. His presence in the top echelon of valuations underscores his importance to Persebaya’s ambitions.

The list of the league’s most valuable players continues with a cluster of talent at an identical market value of Rp11.30 billion. This group includes Juan Villa from Borneo FC, Ranco Balk who now plays for Bali United, and the promising young defender and Indonesian national team stalwart, Rizky Ridho, who represents Persija Jakarta.

Rizky Ridho’s inclusion at this valuation is particularly significant. It confirms his status as the highest-valued Indonesian domestic player in the Super League for the 2026/2027 season, demonstrating the growing marketability and perceived worth of local talent within the evolving Indonesian football landscape. This indicates a positive trend of homegrown players commanding significant market value, potentially encouraging further development and investment in domestic talent.

The Super League 2026/2027: A New Era of Competition and Value

The Super League 2026/2027 season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and exciting in recent memory. The strategic recruitment of high-profile international and domestic players by several clubs, including Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung, signals a clear intent to vie for the championship title. The significant increase in player valuations, as evidenced by Loncar’s top ranking, reflects a growing investment in the league and an increasing recognition of the talent pool within Indonesia.

This trend is not isolated. Across various football leagues globally, player market values are influenced by a multitude of factors, including current form, age, potential for growth, international caps, contract duration, and the player’s impact on their team’s performance. For Stjepan Loncar, his established career in European football, coupled with his likely immediate impact at Persija, has propelled his valuation. Similarly, Thom Haye’s naturalization and his role as a key midfielder for a prominent club like Persib have cemented his high market value.

The presence of multiple players with valuations exceeding Rp10 billion indicates a maturing market and a growing financial capacity within the Super League clubs. This can be attributed to several factors, including increased commercial partnerships, media rights deals, and a more robust fan base. The league’s efforts to enhance its professional standards and attract higher caliber talent are clearly bearing fruit.

Background and Context of Player Valuations

Player market values, as tracked by platforms like Transfermarkt, are not fixed prices but rather estimated figures based on a complex algorithm and expert analysis. They represent an educated assessment of a player’s worth on the transfer market at a given time. Key metrics influencing these valuations include:

• Player Performance: Consistent high-level performances in league matches, cup competitions, and international fixtures.
• Age and Potential: Younger players with high potential for development are often valued more highly than older players, even if their current performance is similar.
• Contract Length: Players with longer remaining contracts are generally considered more valuable as they represent less immediate transfer risk for a buying club.
• International Status: Players who represent their national teams, especially in major tournaments, often see their value increase.
• Transfer History: The fees paid for players in previous transfers can set benchmarks for their current market value.
• Club Reputation and League Standing: Players in top leagues and for well-established clubs may command higher valuations.
• Economic Factors: The overall economic health of the league and the financial capacity of clubs to invest in players.

In the context of the Super League, the influx of players like Loncar and Peralta, who have experience in more competitive European leagues, naturally elevates the overall valuation of the competition. Their proven track records and the fees reportedly paid for their services contribute significantly to their market value assessments.

Analyzing the Implications for the Super League

The rise of Stjepan Loncar to the top of the Super League’s valuation charts carries several implications for the league and its stakeholders:

• Increased Attractiveness to International Talent: A league with a high valuation ceiling can attract more skilled international players, further enhancing the quality of play and the league’s global appeal.
• Boost for Domestic Players: The fact that Rizky Ridho remains the highest-valued local player signals a positive trend for Indonesian football. It suggests that domestic talent is increasingly recognized and valued, which can encourage young Indonesian players to pursue professional careers.
• Competitive Balance: While high-value signings can strengthen individual teams, a wider distribution of talent and significant valuations across multiple clubs can lead to a more competitive league overall. This prevents a scenario where only one or two teams dominate due to their financial muscle.
• Economic Growth: The increased transfer fees and player valuations contribute to the economic ecosystem of the league. This includes benefits for agents, clubs, and potentially national football federations through transfer taxes or development fees.
• Fan Engagement: The presence of star players and the narrative around player valuations can generate significant fan interest and media coverage, leading to increased viewership and engagement.

Club Strategies and Future Outlook

Persija Jakarta’s acquisition of Stjepan Loncar exemplifies a strategic approach to bolstering their squad with proven international quality. This move, along with other significant signings by rival clubs, underscores a heightened level of ambition within the Super League. Clubs are no longer content with merely participating; they are actively investing to compete for the championship and establish themselves as powerhouses.

The long-term impact of these high-value signings will depend on their performance on the field and their ability to integrate into their respective teams. However, the current trend suggests a league that is maturing rapidly, attracting significant investment, and setting higher standards for player development and competition. The Super League 2026/2027 season is poised to be a fascinating showcase of talent, strategy, and the ever-evolving dynamics of professional football in Indonesia.
